If Mama Ain’t Happy…Ain’t Nobody Happy!
Why do I like this saying so much? Because I bust my butt everyday to care for my kids, keep the household functioning, and maintain a positive relationship with my husband. Looking back, I never realized how hard I would have to work each and everyday, and I’m equally surprised with how much joy I can find there.
It’s true that every member of my household has something to contribute, but it’s also true that I am the center of this particular constellation. My well being significantly effects the rest of the family. I know it’s true because I’ve seen it clearly through the good times and the bad (and there were some dark days to be sure.)
What can we learn from this? I’m just one of many whose hard work and resilience affect lives everyday. On Mother’s Day especially, let’s remember the truth of this statement. Moms (and anyone else who plays this pivotal role) need to make their health and happiness a priority. Like they say on the airplane, you’ve got to put your oxygen mask on first before you can help others. The time you take to recharge and reward yourself will have an exponential affect on those around you!
Happy Mother’s Day, everyone!
