I was thinking about this earlier today as I drove home from an appointment.
I just finished reading Martha Beck’s new book, Diana Herself, and it got me wondering about all the special talents people have.
This book is an allegory.
Allegory: a story in which the characters and events are symbols that stand for ideas about human life or for a political or historical situation
Source: Merriam-Webster’s Learner’s Dictionary
It’s full of symbolism and magic and is interesting and a little mind bending, too!
Anyway, besides all the mysticism, there is a very real, down to earth take away, too. And that is that everybody has some kind of talent, skill, or ability that comes naturally to them. Each and every one of us has some kind of special gift that we need to share with the world.
It really could be anything: Can you cook or make people laugh? Can you provide a soft shoulder for someone in need? Are you creative with art or language or ideas? Do kids and/or animals seem to like you? Do you notice things other people don’t? Do you have a green thumb or a musical ear?
I just want to make it clear that EVERYONE has something to offer the world, whether it’s going to make them rich or famous, or just be appreciated by one person. The things that come naturally to us are the things we need to share with the world.
I have a feeling if we thought of our gifts as lights for the world, and also took the time to notice the light of others, that the world would feel like a much more magical place.
Be your best self, let your light shine, and be on the lookout for the things that make other people special, too. I guarantee it will add more joy to your day and your life.
May you have a wonderful day!
